Former “Voice of the Vols,” George Mooney decided to avoid game day traffic in 1962 and used his boat on the Tennessee River to get to Neyland Stadium. Fast forward to today, when 200-plus boats join the Volunteer Navy to “sailgate” just outside the stadium in Knoxville for home games. It’s a party on the water for hours (sometimes days) before and after kickoff, creating a scene unlike any other in college football.
